Or....you could go totally old school like the Pharmer. Harbor Freight manual tire machine, elbow grease, and Dyna-beads. ph34r.gif

Saw the new Indians in Sturgis this year. Very exciting, a brand new 111 inch motor and much more competitively priced that before. We were definitely gonna do a test ride but the trip got cut short.

A week ago Saturday.....rode from Gardiner, MT through Yellowstone to Sheridan, Wy (on to Sturgis next day). A pretty interesting day: started off freezing going through the Lamar valley (28F), saw wolves next to the road, got stared down by a pissed momma bison, rode the Chief Joseph Highway (what a great road!), got a new rear tire in Cody, looked down on the Bighorn Basin from 10,000 ft, saw 2 bull moose, and an 1875 Indian battlefield. 88F in Sheridan when I arrived a 4pm, a 60 degree temp swing.

QUOTE (Cliff @ Jul 22 2012, 07:12 PM) *
Thanks for checking in with an update, it's great to hear you're riding.

At 3500 miles and a second set of tires? Bob, you are not shy.....

Hey Larry....you ever do any exhaust repair? Got a buddy, packing has burned away on his Samson baffle, and one weld is loose so it rattles. Really likes the pipes so would love it they could be repaired. Oh, and congrats as well! biggrin.gif

Funny you should ask.................I was just there talking to Rob about the Shinkos. Offered a good deal, but wasn't available. When I got the email from Bike Bandit that it was out of stock (even though website said in stock) I just had them change the order. $167 for the Metz is a good price, but I should have called Rob first. On top of all this, Metz arrived today....about 2 hours after an email that said the Shinko was now available. Go figure.

Hmmmmm.............had a steel 90 degree stem on the tube on my VTX rear. Never had an issue (with the stem at least. The tube infamously failed after 30k). I used 45 degree steel stems on my sealed spokes and no trouble there either.

I love the Shinko SR 777. Best handling tire ever. But only 6600 miles and it was done (on the rear. Front still going strong). For $90 that's fine. But I couldn't get another (backordered last fall and again now). Got a Continental Milestone on there and it sucks. Major dropoff in handling, traction, and unbelievably, wear. Paid $160 (runs $180 to $200 most places) and if it makes it to 6500 I'll be surprised. Went to Metz because it has similar performance and good availability. Paid $167 shipped so if it lasts 10k it'll be a value similar to the Shinko.

Believe it or not, there is growing darkside community among HD touring bikes. Its limited because prior to 2009, the stock rear tire on these bike was roughly 140mm wide (2009-2012 has a 180 stock, just like VTX). I run one size over (150) on my Road King. Just ordered a new Metzeler ME880, but investigated going DS last year. It takes a really, really skinny car tire which is hard to find. The most popular was made by Vredestein but has been discontinued (one online retailer sold 20,000 of these - all one at a time). Now the only tire available is a specialty tire for antique cars, costs $280+ and requires at $45 tube. Roughly the price of 2 ME880's and about the same total mileage. So no DS for me.

Well I didn't gun it down to the exit. A little over parking lot speed, but not much.
